1 killed in crash on Dale Mabry Highway: Police

TAMPA, Fla. - One person was killed in a crash on Dale Mabry Highway early Thursday morning, according to police. 

According to the Tampa Police Department, a single-vehicle crash occurred on South Dale Mabry Hwy between Gandy Boulevard and South Church Avenue around 1 a.m. on Wednesday.

TPD says the investigation revealed that a 2021 Toyota Camry was speeding while headed east on the Selmon Expressway connector from the Gandy Bridge.

While trying to exit onto the ramp to S. Dale Mabry, the car hit a side wall, according to officials.

Authorities say the car flipped and landed in the southbound lanes of Dale Mabry Highway and came to a stop on the east side of Gandy Blvd.

Police say the driver of the Camry, a man in his early 20s, died at the scene of the crash. He was the only person in the car, according to the police department.

All southbound lanes of Dale Mabry Hwy in that area were closed for several hours but have since reopened.
