Florida child dies from flu-related complications; first of 2018-'19 season
(FOX 13) - A Florida child has died in connection with the flu, according to a new report from the Florida Department of Health.
The child had not been vaccinated, according to the DOH report. The child had no known, underlying health conditions.
The age and other information about the child were withheld for privacy reasons.
The week of September 30 - October 6 is considered week 40 of the 2018-2019 influenza season.
The Florida Department of Health receives reports of influenza-associated pediatric deaths each season and most deaths are reported in unvaccinated children.
The DOH said influenza vaccination has been shown to reduce a child’s likelihood of dying from influenza by up to 60-percent.
