Goliath grouper steals shark from fisherman
NAPLES, Fla. (FOX 13) - A 500-pound grouper almost had a successful breakfast.
A group of fisherman with the Everglades Fishing Company were out on the water off the coast of Naples, Florida. One began reeling in a shark, planning to catch and release it – until the giant goliath grouper swam by and swallowed it whole.
The fisherman tried to wrestle with it, but once the line finally loosened, it was a little too late, and it was all caught on camera.
According to Naples Daily News, the fishing company said the grouper ended up spitting out the shark.
Goliath groupers have been protected in Florida since 1990 due to declining populations. If they are accidentally caught on a fishing line, they must be returned to the ocean. They can grow up to 8 feet long and weigh about 800 pounds.
