Fort Worth police chase suspect through multiple counties
Fort Worth police arrested a man after a chase across multiple counties during Monday rush hour.
The chase started in Fort Worth Monday afternoon and then made its way eastbound along Interstate 20 into Dallas County before moving to southbound Interstate 35 East and eventually into Waxahachie in Ellis County.
At high speeds, the suspect eluded police until a spike strip got the best of him.
Police say it when 31-year-old Zachary Medina didn't stop his car when officers tried to pull him over. His family had reported the GMC Terrain stolen around 8 a.m. Monday. Medina had an outstanding warrant.
SKY 4 caught up with the chase shortly after it started around I-20 and Crowley Road in South Fort Worth. The chase raced at high speeds, getting up to 85 miles an hour at some points on I-20 into Dallas County.
As the chase made its way on to 35 and south into Ellis County, officers put down spike strips that punctured Medina’s tires. But he kept going. A Fort Worth police cruiser is also hit by the spike strips and had to slow down. Medina’s tire eventually peeled away, forcing him to slow down.
Medina pulled into a grassy median, got out and tried to run but slipped once his pants were falling down. A truck then gave him a love tap, and officers swarmed.
Crews loaded up both the GMC Terrain and a Fort Worth police cruiser with tires torn while Medina got a ride back to Fort Worth — to jail.
Medina had an outstanding warrant for a parole violation for possession of meth. Records show he has a lengthy criminal history for drugs, burglary and even fleeing police in Tarrant County.
