Missing Alabama soldier found dead at Camp Blanding
STARKE (FOX 13) - The search for a missing soldier in north Florida has ended in tragedy. The Army reservist’s body was found in a wooded area near the spot he was last seen.
The Clay County Sheriff's Office says crews found the body of Spc. Calyn McLemore in a wooded area of Camp Blanding, which is between Gainesville and Jacksonville.
Spc. McLemore went missing Wednesday during a training exercise at Camp Blanding’s Joint Training Center.
Search teams had been looking for him since Wednesday morning when he failed to return from the training.
The Florida National Guard says he was taking part in a land navigation course.
“It is with great regret we must inform the community that Specialist Calyn McLemore was found deceased, a short time ago, in a wooded area of Camp Blanding. This now becomes an undetermined death investigation,” the Clay County Sheriff’s Office said on its Facebook page.
McLemore was a member of the Alabama Army Reserve.
The Pasco County Sheriff's Office was among those helping in the search, along with other Florida agencies and federal agents.
