Florida man arrested for shooting daughter's dog

A Pasco County man has been arrested for shooting his daughter's dog after it defecated on the floor inside the house.

Deputies responded to the home on Kossik Rd. in Zephyrhills after a report of animal abuse.

The daughter of the suspect identified as 80-year-old David Zayas told deputies that Zayas hated the dog and he shot the 13-year-old chocolate Lab mix in the leg.

Deputies interviewed Zayas who said it's not illegal to shoot a dog from where he's from in Connecticut.

It is illegal in Florida and Zayas was arrested for aggravated cruelty to animals.

He was transported to the Land O' Lakes jail.

The pup's owner said she was taking the dog to an emergency veterinarian.

The dog is expected to survive.
