San Francisco 49ers release player after arrest in Tampa

Tampa police officers arrested a San Francisco 49ers player in connection with a domestic violence incident Saturday night.

Officers were called the the Grand Hyatt hotel on Bayport Drive shortly after 9 p.m. The NFL team is staying at the hotel ahead of its game against the Bucs on Sunday.

According to police, 49ers linebacker Reuben Foster was involved in an altercation with an on-again-off-again girlfriend. During the altercation, he allegedly slapped the victim's face and pushed her in the chest area.

Foster is charged with domestic violence.

Not long after the arrest, NFL fans were already voicing their opinions.

"You've got little kids that look at these guys and they are their heroes they worship them," said Todd Shuff, an NFL fan. "How can you worship someone that beats up on a woman?"

Shortly before 9 a.m., the San Francisco 49ers announced that Foster is being released from the team.

Foster bonded out of the Hillsborough County Jail sometime Sunday morning.
