South Tampa liquor store robberies may be linked to similar crimes

Two South Tampa liquor stores were robbed Thursday evening, and police think the gun-toting suspect may be the same man who’s hit other stores in the county.

According to Tampa police, it was just after 6 p.m. when the suspect walked into the Publix Liquor store on Gandy Boulevard and pulled out a black revolver, then demanded money and a bottle of Crown Royal whisky. Less than two hours later, a similar scene played out at the Publix Liquor store on South Dale Mabry.

Detectives believe the suspect is the same person who robbed a Bottle Rack on Gunn Highway a month ago, making off with cash and a bottle of Hennessey.  On December 29, investigators say he pulled a similar robbery at Jan's Wines and Boos on Van Dyke Road, again getting cash and Courvoisier.

In each case, the suspect was described as a white, possibly Hispanic, male standing about 5-foot-8 to 5-foot-10, wearing dark clothing to conceal his identity.

Investigators ask anyone with any information to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-873-TIPS (8477) or report anonymously online at www.crimestopperstb.com.
