TPD makes arrest in deadly road-rage incident
TAMPA (FOX 13) - The Tampa Police Department said it has arrested a man for fatally stabbing another man in a road rage incident Wednesday.
TPD says 44-year-old Teddy Baltimore Smith has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder for the death of 56-year-old Gilbert Serna.
The incident happened around 11:30 Wednesday when the driver of a black BMW got out of his car to confront two people in a pickup truck at Fowler Avenue and Interstate 275.
Investigators say it appears Serna spat out the window of the truck as the two vehicles were stopped. They say Smith got out of his car to yell at Serna, but stabbed him instead.
He then got back into his car and drove away, police say.
The driver of the truck tried to follow Smith's BMW west on Fowler, but stopped at the corner of W 109th Avenue and N Ashley Street.
TPD performed CPR on Serna and he was taken to the hospital where he died.
The BMW was located Thursday before the arrest was made. Police say they do not think Smith knew Serna prior to the altercation.
