Teen couple who killed Emily Clemons to be resentenced

TAMPA (FOX 13) - Laisha Landrum and her boyfriend, Rocky Almestica used a hammer and kitchen pots to beat another teen, then left her to die in a dumpster.

The teenage couple both got life in prison for the death of Emily Clemons, who the pair considered a rival.

During Landrum's sentencing, she apologized to Clemons' mother.

"I would like to apologize. If I could, I would bring her back, but I can't and I apologize for that. I'm sorry," Landrum said.

But now the U.S. Supreme Court is giving them a lifeline, saying life without parole is unconstitional for juvenile offenders, which means Landrum and Almestica will be re-sentenced.

As their defense attorneys prepared, prosecutors asked the judge to order the co-defendants stay away from each other.

The judge agreed.

Legal experts say there is no guarantee either defendant will have their sentence reduced, or ever get out of prison, but if they do, prosecutors want to make sure the teen killers never reunite.
