Sarasota County: Ian updates and emergency information
Follow ongoing updates from Sarasota County in response to Ian.
SARASOTA COUNTY CLOSINGS:
Regular county operations are closed Tuesday, September 27, and Wednesday, September 28.
Sarasota Bradenton International Airport will close to all air traffic and the terminal will be locked and secured at 8 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 27.
SARASOTA COUNTY SHELTERS:
General population evacuation centers will open 12 p.m. Tuesday, September 27. For a full list of shelters, click here.
SARASOTA COUNTY SCHOOLS:
All Sarasota County Schools will be open Monday, September 26 with normal operations. Schools will close Tuesday, September 27.
SARASOTA COUNTY SANDBAGS:
Sandbag distribution locations are closed.
SARASOTA COUNTY EVACUATIONS:
County officials are calling for evacuations of Levels A and B, which includes barrier islands, mobile homes and those living on vessels.
SARASOTA TRANSPORTATION:
County transit will offer fare-free services on Tuesday, September 27.

Solid waste collection services have been canceled for Wednesday, September 28, and Thursday, September 29. The central county landfill will also be closed on those days.
