Bay Area cold weather shelters opening Wednesday night with low temperatures expected

With temperatures expected to dip to or below 40 degrees with wind chill overnight, cold weather shelters are set to open across the Bay Area on Wednesday night.

The shelters are for the homeless and those who live in homes without adequate heat who are unable to find other accommodations.

  • Nature Coast Church: 5113 S Suncoast Blvd., Homosassa

Hillsborough County cold weather shelters

  • Church of God of Prophecy Hyde Park: 107 S. Oregon Ave., Tampa, FL 33606
  • Hyde Park United Methodist Church: 500 W. Platt St., Tampa, FL 33606
  • Tampa Bay Mission of Hope: 212 S. St. Cloud Ave. Building A, Valrico, FL 33594

With limited capacity and high demand for these shelters, residents are being asked to reach out to friends and family as a first option.

Hillsborough County shelters are for adults only and will admit guests from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday, unless they fill up before that time.

Metropolitan Ministries is also offering a limited number of single-night motel vouchers on a first-come, first-served basis for families with children.

Those families are required to pre-register by calling 813-209-1176.
