TAMPA (FOX 13) - The families of two teens struck by lightning Tuesday held a press conference Wednesday afternoon to discuss their sons' conditions.
"This has been a horrific ordeal. Not the way I wanted to spend a week in Clearwater," said mother Claudette Tabor.
The boys, 15-year-old Cameron Poimboeuf and 18-year-old Jansen Tabor are both from the Charlotte area.
They were trying to run off the beach near Sand Key when they were struck. Cameron took the worst of it.
"They said no one survives that the kind of hit the boys took," said Claudette Tabor.
"We're blessed by the grace of God that Cameron's still here," said his father Kevin Poimboeuf.
The boys' parents thanked the good Samaritans who rushed to perform CPR on Cameron before EMS arrived.
Cassandra Thomas, a nurse from Pennsylvania, ran down 16 flights of stairs and was one of the first at the scene.
"My family is extremely grateful for this guardian angel who was there, who witnessed this, and gave CPR to our son," said Poimboeuf.
The heroic act likely saved his young life. He had gone into cardiac arrest.
"Cameron's still in ICU. He's in stable condition. The doctors are very encouraged by his improving vital signs and overall progress," his father said.
TGH officials say his condition is classified as "serious", upgraded from "critical".
Cameron was here visiting with his girlfriend Caroline and her family.
"Really thankful for my friends and their prayers and Cameron, he's doing really good," Caroline Poimboeuf said.
"He's a strong fighter so he's not going anywhere," his father said.
