It's 'A Charlie Brown Christmas' at Gaylord Palms
ORLANDO (FOX 13) - It's Christmas at Gaylord Palms in Orlando, and this year, the amazing sculptures of ice and snow have a brand new style. It might just make you say, “Good grief!”
The resort probably got some help from the North Pole because the resort looks more like a winter wonderland.
“Christmas is such an amazing time of the year. It has imagination, it has giving, it has heart,” Niko Nickolaou of Gaylord Palms said.
Niko put his whole heart into this project and, with a little help from his 4-year-old daughter, Kennedy; he created this year's theme: “A Charlie Brown Christmas.”
“My mother watches it and my daughter watches it, so they're really excited to see it on ice,” Nickolaou said.
Sure, Ice is the big attraction, but it's not the only thing to see at Gaylord Palms. FOX 13 decided to ask Kennedy, who's been there a time or two, to show us the ropes and take us to Snoopy!
We got in line to see the Peanuts pup and waited, anxiously, for our turn. We danced, we laughed, and we hugged, but Kennedy was a little skeptical about the oversized dog, so we headed back to Alpine Village and into Gingerbread Land, where you can make your own gingerbread man.
We were definitely ready for something sweet. The cookies are ready to be iced, and with a ton of icing and a few sprinkles, we were ready to taste our magical creation!
It's not a winter wonderland without some snow, so we bundled up for our next adventure: indoor snow tubing. Real snowballs in Florida? Absolutely, if you’re at Gaylord Palms!
Kennedy had enough of the cold, so we said our goodbyes, and we got ready for the main attraction and the big freeze.
“This year we have Charlie Brown's Christmas hand carved in 2 million pounds of ice. So it's absolutely breathtaking going through there,” Nickolaou told us, and he was right.
The whole Peanuts gang was waiting inside, where it’s icy cold. Parkas, earmuffs and scarves weren’t enough to help block the chill of 9-degree temps. But the cold doesn’t stop the fun.
There was only one way to end our magically perfect, ice cold day - with a cup of hot cocoa.
Gaylord Palms runs through January 1. Tickets start at $28.99 for adults and $14.99 for kids, and there are season passes, too. For more information, call 1-407-586-4423.
