MOSI to reopen after three-month renovation

TAMPA (FOX 13) - MOSI is back.

The Museum of Science and Industry temporarily closed its doors for three months in order to downsize -- from 300,000 to 40,000 square feet -- and become more financially stable. 

It might sound like a big change, but they promise they haven’t compromised the education fun they have to offer. MOSI President and CEO Julian Mackenzie said the consolidating also means a more concentrated approach on science itself, and remains an enjoyable interactive experience for all.

He also hopes to change a statistic: 50 percent of 8th grade kids lose interest in science.

"We are going to be focusing on outreach programs into the community," Mackenzie said. "As soon as the people get out of the car, they will see science exhibits walking into the entrance of the building."

The public can return starting on Saturday, November 18. Favorites like the planetarium, ropes course and, of course, the hurricane machine. The grand reopening begins at 10 a.m. with food trucks and music.

There are also lower prices: $12.95 for adults, $10.95 for military and seniors over the age of 60, $7.95 kids ages 3 to 11, and free for ages two and under.
