Suspicious death investigation

The St. Petersburg Police Department is investigating after a woman was found dead Sunday morning. 

According to SPPD, officers were called to check on the welfare of a 60-year-old woman at 5055 3rd Avenue S. at 11:30 a.m. 

They say her family contacted the police because they were unable to get a hold of her for a few days. The family met officers at the home and when they went inside, police discovered the woman's body. 

Police say a man who was at the home was taken into custody for questioning. 

Police conducting a welfare check discovered the body of a woman and took a suspect into custody for questioning. 

According to police, the man knew the woman, but investigators have not said how the pair knew each other. 

As of Sunday evening, police were waiting on a warrant to search the home.
