1 dead, 2 wounded in Lakeland shooting

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting that left one person dead and two injured.

Sheriff Grady Judd says the incident took place just before 8 p.m. on Tennessee Rd. in Lakeland.  Three men in a vehicle drove by a house and opened fire.

A 17-year-old in the front yard of the house was shot and killed.  Another man came from inside the house with a shotgun and opened fire on the vehicle, striking the driver and the passenger. The car drove a short distance but crashed into a ditch.

Two of the people in the car were taken to the hospital; the third is in custody.

The teen who was killed was already in a wheelchair from a previous shooting when he was 11. His brother was killed in that incident.

Judd says both shootings appear to be gang related.
