A Bradenton man was injured officer-involved shooting in Sarasota, police said, after they were patrolling an area

Sarasota police said in the past week, there have been two business burglaries and two vehicle burglaries near the 2100 block of 13th Street. On Monday morning, police were patrolling the area before 1 a.m., the officers encountered 35-year-old Thomas Gick riding a bicycle without any lights.

When they attempted to speak with him, police said he turned off the street into a parking lot between two businesses, reached for his waist area and produced a pellet gun, but at the time, it appeared to be a real weapon. One officer fired several shots hitting Gick in both legs. Police said both officers rendered first aid until fire rescue arrived.

Gick was transported to Sarasota Memorial Hospital where he was treated and is expected to survive, said Deputy Chief Patrick Robinson during a press conference.

Neither officer was injured. The officer who fired his weapon was placed on a routine administrative leave and has been with the agency since 2011.

It’s unclear whether Gick s involved with the burglary trend.
