1 shot, killed outside Suncoast Credit Union in Seminole Heights, police say

Police in Tampa are investigating after a person was shot to death early Friday morning outside a Suncoast Credit Union.

According to the Tampa Police Department, officers were called to the credit union shortly after 6 a.m. for reports of a person being shot. The victim was taken to Tampa General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

"It’s too early to see whether this was targeted or a random event, but detectives follow up on every case the same exact way," said Eddy Durkin, a Tampa Police spokesperson. "They want to find out who did it, what led to it, and get the person of the street."

Detectives aren't yet sure if the victim was a bank customer. They spent Friday reviewing surveillance video from the credit union, while searching the surrounding neighborhood for home security video that could help them in their investigation.

Investigators are also still working to identify a suspect.

Anyone with information about the homicide is asked to contact the Tampa Police Department at 813-231-6130.
