10 supercool retro toys that will never go out of style

Technology's great, but there's still nothing like these supercool retro toys. In honor of World Play-Doh Day (hint), here's a list of toys that keep on bringing the fun MANY years later. See if you agree!

1. SLINKY
Everyone knows it's Slinky... but did you know this compressed metal spring toy debuted all the way back in the 1940s? It's probably best known for being able to make it down the stairs all on its own. AMAZING! We can just hear it now.

2. LINCOLN LOGS
They're the toy your grandpa couldn't put down. These notched mini-logs fit together to build forts and buildings, and they date all the way back to 1916! Created by John Lloyd Wright (the second son of architect Frank Lloyd Wright), Lincoln Logs were inspired by the Imperial Hotel in Tokyo, Japan. When they hit the market, they came with instructions explaining how to build Uncle Tom's Cabin and Lincoln's Cabin.

3. EASY BAKE OVEN
Who's hungry? The Easy Bake Oven might have been the first time place you ever baked a (bite-sized) cake. Introduced in 1963, it was powered by incandescent light bulbs. By 1997, more than 16 MILLION had been sold, and in 2013 that number soared over 30 million. Of course, now you can make everything from truffles to whoopie pies in today's version. Did someone say dessert?

4. CABBAGE PATCH KIDS
Kids of the 80s know these days were EVERYTHING... and for a long time, they were hard to come by. But it's important to note they weren't "for sale." They were for adoption-- and every doll came with a name and official birth certificate signed by Xavier Roberts. And for the really big fans, there's STILL an official Cabbage Patch Kids hospital in north Georgia (Babyland General) where you can go to witness the birth of a Cabbage Patch Kid-- and of course, adopt your own.

5. VIEW-MASTER
Oh the places you'll go with one of these. The View-Master took kids on 3D adventures in the jungle, the ocean and more-- with their favorite characters. Each cardboard disk held 14 stereoscopic 3D images simulating binocular depth perception.

6. RUBIK'S CUBE
Can you do it? The Rubik's Cube was invited in 1974 by Hungarian sculptor Erno Rubik. There are over 3 BILLION combinations-- but only one of them is right.

7. BIG WHEEL
The name says it all. That giant front wheel made this 70s toy unmistakable. In fact, the Big Wheel rolled it's way into the National Toy Hall of Fame in 2009.

8. ATARI 2600
This bad boy was credited with popularizing microprocessor-based hardware and ROM cartridges. What's that mean? It means they were FUN! But if you don't already have one, the Atari 2600 will set you back. The home gaming system originally sold for $199-- but today? That'll be $777, please!

9. ETCH-A-SKETCH
This one never goes out of style. For over 50 years, kids of all ages have been grabbing the Etch-A-Sketch for pencil-free drawing fun. The knobs moved a stylus, displacing aluminum powder and leaving a line. The best part? Shaking it up to erase the screen and start all over!

and finally...

10. PLAY-DOH
They won't tell us what's in it-- except to say that primarily, Play-Doh is a combination of water, salt and flour. And also fun. (Just don't eat it...)

Fun fact: Play-Doh was originally used as a wallpaper cleaner in the 1930s. But good luck getting the kids to clean with it when you can PLAY with it. And play they have: more than 2 BILLION cans have been sold around the world. If you took all of the Play-Doh ever created and made it into a big ball, it would way over 700 million pounds!

Have we mentioned that September 16 is World Play-Doh Day... AND the 60th anniversary of Play-Doh? Grab a can and celebrate!
