LUBBOCK, Tx. (FOX) - A 10-year-old girl in Texas raised nearly $2,600 by mowing lawns over the summer. Why did she need the money? To go to Disneyland, of course!
Addison Pickering of Lubbock is part of her hometown's dance team. Early this year, the team got picked to perform at the Holiday Spectacular parade in California's Disneyland in Anaheim.
The trip is a huge honor for Pickering and her friends -- but she knew it would be expensive. So over the summer she pulled out her dad's mower and asked him how it worked.
"I remember that daddy had always told me his stories of mowing. Like how he got to Six Flags; he mowed to get the money to go," Addison explained. "So I was like, 'Can I mow to help raise money?' And they were like, 'Sure.'"
Soon she was cutting all her neighbors' lawns, and a social media campaign even brought in donations from as far away as Germany.
"It was people who had their own lawn mowers and could have done it themselves, but they chose Addison, and we really appreciate that," her dad offered.
"One thing that I am gonna remember from my experience is that my feet are gonna hurt," Addison continued.
Addison and her friends on the dance team will be dancing for nearly a half-hour straight the day of the Disneyland holiday parade. The team will also be performing in a local park nearby the same day.
Addison says she's a little nervous but excited this is an experience she's earned all on her own.
"I hope they say we did a great job and we worked hard because we all did," she added. "And no matter what happens to me, that this is gonna be a dream come true."
