NORTH PORT (FOX 13) - The North Port Police Department's 911 call center has been busy answering calls from people all over the world, but not because there was an emergency. People were calling to thank the department for its officers' kind actions.
North Port police officers heard an 8-year-old boy with autism was having a birthday party, but no one was coming to help him celebrate. So the officers came out in force.
In a video posted to Facebook, callers from around the world can be heard thanking the department for its hard work to make their community a better place.
The first comment under the video appears to be from a family member of the birthday boy.
It reads, "This means so much to us... Everyone is nothing short of amazing. This really brings home how much people really care and has taken our story to heart. I truly believe we have the best of the best here in North Port. How can I ever thank you??"
The North Port Police Department's reply is heartwarming.
Because of the outpouring across the nation, North Port police plan to hold a party for Daniel and all children with autism in the area. The event is being held at Dallas White Park on July 3, from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m.
