TAMPA, Fla. - Nearly eight months after a 14-year-old boy was found dead near a set of railroad tracks, Tampa police say they have made an arrest.
Police said they have arrested Jahmir Moore, 15, and charged him with one count of first-degree murder, one count of carrying a concealed firearm, one count of tampering with evidence, and minor in possession of a firearm in the shooting death of 14-year-old Jevario Buie.
Police say Buie's body was located on April 17, 2024, near the railroad tracks between Blvd. and Rome Ave.
According to the Tampa Police Department, the teen’s body was found by officers who went to the area to investigate reports of gunfire in the area.
Home security video released by police shows Buie walking with two people about ten minutes before the shooting.

Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercaw said Moore has been identified as one of the people in the video.
"Juveniles don’t get a pass, and they will be held accountable," Bercaw said.
The chief added that detectives used social media messages, notes and search history to link Moore to Buie's death.

Buie’s family wants him to be remembered as a goofy, giggly kid with an infectious smile who loved football and teasing his sisters.
During a press conference on Thursday afternoon, Buie's mother and grandfather thanked police for their work on the case.
"I’ve been living in a nightmare since I lost my son," Jasmine Baldwin, Buie’s mother, said on Thursday afternoon. "Now, I can feel a little bit of closure thanks to the detectives. I know who now. Now, I just need to know why."

Bercaw did not say what led up to the shooting, but said there was a feud, but he was not clear as to what Buie’s involvement was in the dispute. The chief went on to say that Buie was lured to the railroad tracks, but the shooting is still part of the investigation.
According to police, Moore had a gun on him when he was arrested. Bercaw said the gun was stolen from Miami.
"To realize I could not protect my grandson has been really difficult to process and walk with. Today is one of those days when we, we are deeply saddened that it was another 15-year-old," Michael Baldwin, Buie’s grandfather, shared. "At the same time, we know that the streets of Tampa are safer today because this hurting soul is going to be held accountable."
Detectives are working to identify the additional person seen in the video walking with Buie.
Bercaw added that police believe they have the person responsible for the shooting, but additional arrests may be made.
