At least 2 dozen residents evacuated in Manatee County following storms
BRADENTON (FOX 13) - Manatee County officials said at least 2 dozen residents have been evacuated due to flooding and suspected tornado damage in the Bradenton area Sunday morning.
An emergency shelter has been opened up at St. George's Episcopal Church for people effected by the storm.
Emergency Management officials said the church should be a last resort for anyone seeking temporary shelter.
"We always urge people to seek lodging where they'll be most comfortable," Burris said.
Parts of Bradenton received up to eight inches of rain Saturday evening, and a tornado was believed to have moved through the Samoset area shortly after 9 p.m.
Officials said buildings were damaged along 26th Avenue East, including the roof and vehicles at Manatee County's fleet maintenance facility. Numerous trees were also reported to be down.
In addition, many roads in the county remain flooded and drivers should use caution. Officials said the communities that are experiencing flooding include Palm Aire, Tara, Rosedale Country Club, River Club and Braden Woods.
No injuries have been reported. Crews with Manatee County Public Works and Florida Power and Light are working to cleanup the debris and restore power to the area.
