ATF agent shot at Riverview bowling alley

FOX 13's Jordan Bowen has the latest on the agent's condition as he recovers in the hospital.

An off-duty ATF agent was hospitalized with serious injuries after a shooting at a Riverview bowling alley Friday night, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.

Investigators say the ATF agent was with his family when he attempted to break up a fight in the parking lot of The Alley at Southshore.

The suspect, who has been identified as 18-year-old Christopher Smith, was arrested seven hours later at a nearby home.

HCSO says Smith is charged with first-degree attempted murder with a firearm, aggravated battery, great bodily harm with a deadly weapon, tampering with physical evidence and carrying a concealed firearm.

Chief Deputy Joseph Maurer commended the agent's actions even though he was off-duty and with his family.

"We have no tolerance for violent behavior, specifically violent crime, specifically in areas that are conducive to family fun in a bowling alley," Smith said. "Let me commend this ATF agent for stopping a fight and putting his own life in danger to stop that fight. Please keep this agent in your prayers. He needs all our prayers right now."
