Battle between hammerhead shark and tarpon seen near Anna Maria Island

ANNA MARIA ISLAND (STORYFUL) - A Manatee County woman was startled to see a hammerhead shark near Anna Maria Island.

Whitney Phillips Watson was out on a boat when she captured footage of a battle between a tarpon and a hammerhead shark in the Gulf of Mexico waters on Sunday.

Her video shows her boat approaching the opponents, and later, the shark flicks the tarpon out of the water. It’s unclear who won, after Watson is heard asking a man named, “Matt,” to leave the area.
“Matt, please. It’s going under the boat,” Watson says. “I want you to go.”

By the end of the video, she said she is shaking from experiencing the underwater fight.
