Bay Area school ranked best in FL, top 10 in U.S.
OSPREY (FOX 13) - Pine View School made its mark as one of the top high schools in the country, and it's in our backyard.
The school has a tradition of high student achievement and service, and teachers instill into students learning as a way of life.
Pine View's principal, Dr. Stephen Covert explained how the school approaches education as a way of life.
"They come together in this amazing environment and they unleash ideas and passion and energy," he said of Pine View's educators.
Dr. Covert said a creative environment is the key to helping students reach for high achievement.
"We have a student that graduated a few years ago. She went on to invent a new water infiltration system for villages in Africa. Those kinds of students are throughout this campus," Dr. Covert said.
Pine View's approach has students and the school climbing the ranks, being rated as the seventh best high school in the nation by U.S. News, and top dog in Florida.
The ranking is great news for the school and does wonders for the student body.
"I think that it is exciting that I know that I go to the school that has such a prestigious ranking," sophomore Riley Board said. "It's nice to know that I am getting one of the best educations."
Pine View opened more than 45 years ago as the only public gifted school in the U.S.
"It's about great students, wonderful teachers, and the support of an amazing parent base," Dr. Covert added.
An environment that is a recipe for success.
Sophomore Thomas Allen says he believes the teachers make a big difference.
"They all are very helpful and very approachable, and they are really great at what they do," he explained.
