Bicyclist killed in Venice crash

VENICE, Fla. (FOX 13) - A bicyclist died after colliding with a vehicle in Venice this afternoon.

According to Venice police, it was around 2:30 p.m. when rescuers were called to the scene of the crash underneath the Venice Avenue Bridge. A red Jeep, heading north on American Legion Way, had collided with a bicyclist at the intersection of East Venice Ave. 

The bicyclist died at the scene, despite the rescuers' efforts. Police have thus far only identified him as a 66-yar-old man.

Drivers are being asked to avoid the area as police continue their investigation.
