Police said it's still too early in the investigation to share what exactly happened. St. Pete Police's Traffic Homicide Unit was on scene for several hours.

Detectives said the driver of the SUV stayed on scene and is cooperating. There was also a PSTA bus on scene. Police could not share how it was involved.

Josh Sutterfield said he's only lived in the area for a couple of months, and it's already clear speeding is an issue. "It's concerning. There's frequent speeding that happens all the time to the point where you can hear them before they even come by," he explained.

The area is mostly residential with a day care and library nearby. He said, "I'd like to see some traffic enforcement. That would be nice."

Sutterfield said the lack of roadway visibility where Roy Hanna Drive curves is another issue. He said, "You don't know what's coming around the corner. It's best to just not do 60 or 50 miles an hour." Pauline Albritton has walked the area since the mid-'90s. She said, "Speed bumps. Especially right around in the area, because you're going to that school, and you're also going to that library. That would be good if we had speed bumps."

All lanes of Roy Hanna Dr. were closed for a few hours while police investigated the scene.
