Bro Bowl 2.0 set to open in April

TAMPA (FOX 13) - With the opening of the new Perry Harvey, Sr. Park comes the much-anticipated unveiling of the re-imagined Bro Bowl - Tampa's historic skate park. 

Ashley Bauman with the City of Tampa said Friday, laser mapping technology was used to capture the exact layout of the bowl - allowing engineers to re-created the skateboarding landscape graced by names like Tony Hawk and Andrew Reynolds. 

Pieces of the original Bro Bowl were also saved and incorporated into the restructured park. 

The project enlisted the help of the skate park masterminds at Team Pain, which works on skate park projects across the country, including Skate Park of Tampa, which also helped with the project. 

In addition to recreating the original 1979 Bro Bowl, Bauman said the skate park features a new section of skate park, giving the Bro Bowl 2.0 a modern twist and a lot more real estate.. 

"Tampa's skating history stared with the Bro Bowl," Bauman said, adding many efforts have been made since the original parks closing to create a new place for the next generation of skaters to grind, ollie and tailslide. 

The grand opening of the new Perry Harvey, Sr. Park is set for April 2, with a tentative grand opening event for the skate park set for mid April.
