Brooksville teen, mother among dead in triple shooting
BROOKSVILLE (FOX 13) - A mother and daughter are dead, a third victim is severely injured, after a shooting at a home in the Hill 'N Dale subdivision near Brooksville.
Neighbors were shocked to learn Taneta Morrell, 40, and her daughter, Brene' Marshall, 16, were shot to death inside their home on Azen Loop around 9 p.m. Tuesday.
Marshall, a Hernando High School student, would have turned 17 on Friday. She recently asked friends on Facebook to donate to the ASPCA for her birthday instead of giving her gifts.
"For me to only see them just days ago, and now they're not here with us today, that's crazy," said neighbor Mohammed Kalam.
Kalam saw the mother and daughter Sunday afternoon when they made their usual stop at his Brooksville convenience store after church.
"I've talked to the wife a bunch of times about their services after they get out of church," said Kalam.
Deputies were called to the family's home after neighbors reported hearing gunshots and screams.
"We had three victims at the residents when we got here," said Sheriff Al Neinhuis during a news conference on Wednesday morning.
Morrell's boyfriend, Adolphus Washington, 36, escaped from the home. He was lying outside bleeding, but still alive, according to neighbors who found him.
"I will tell you it was very violent. There was a lot of violence that when on in the house behind me," said Sheriff Neinhuis.
The shooting suspect was seen running from the home. Deputies were able to track him to a vacant house on Thorncrest Avenue, less than a mile away
After a standoff, the SWAT team was able to take him into custody.
The Sheriff's Office has not yet released the name of the suspect. Investigators are working to find any possible relationship the suspect had with the victims.
The suspect has multiple felony arrests in the past, according to Sheriff Neinhuis.
In a statement on Wednesday, the Hernando County School District wrote, "We are saddened to share the news that today Hernando High School is grieving the loss of one of their students, Miss Brene' Marshall.
