Brunson faces victim's mother; sentenced to life
TAMPA (FOX 13) - At his sentencing, murder defendant David Brunson was staring at the possibility of life in prison and the victim's mother, Carren Gustitis made sure the judge knew exactly where she stood.
"I think he should receive life for his actions," said Gustitis.
Carren's 16-year-old son, Eion was shot and killed by Brunson in September of 2015.
Prosecutors say the defendant mistakenly believed the Freedom High School student had stolen a cell phone and drugs during a house party and he was going to make him pay.
After the shooting two other kids were arrested for getting rid of the gun.
At Brunson's sentencing, Eion's mother reminded the judge what the defendant took away.
"I will never hear him say 'I love you mom', see him get married or have kids of his own," said Gustitis.
But there was also another suffering mother who spoke. David Brunson's mother, Lisa Block unleashed her fury in the courtroom, aiming it directly at the prosecutor.
"He doesn't have remorse because it was a [expletive] accident, that's why! I lost my child too. They came with a SWAT team to my house like we was freaking Jeffrey Dahmer," she cried out.
But all the rage and pain did not sway the judge. He sentenced the 20-year-old to life in prison.
Because Brunson was a juvenile when he was charged he will get a review in 25 years to see if he is eligible for parole.
