RIVERSIDE, Calif. (STORYFUL) - A fire that started in the afternoon near California's 91 Freeway grew to 2,000 acres by 10 p.m. Monday.
The fire was burning dangerously close to the freeway near the Orange-Riverside county line.
Video taken by a motorist headed east shows a hillside completely engulfed by flames as traffic continued to pass by.
Embers can be seen blowing through the air and across the roadway, hitting the windshield as the driver continues.
As of Tuesday morning, local media reported that the blaze was only 5 percent contained.
On Tuesday, crews dropped fire retardant on the Canyon Fire, burning near Corona, California.
In nearby Oakland Hills, a brush fire started burning dangerously close to homes, prompting evacuations that were later canceled when the fire was brought under control.
The fire also burned near the California Polytechnic State University campus, as seen in video posted on social media.
