Officers went to a home at 4204 11th Avenue South around 9:42 p.m. on Thursday to investigate a report of a person being shot.

When officers arrived, they said they found 11-year-old Veondre Hargrove dead inside the residence from a gunshot wound.

"It's a very tragic incident for all parties involved, not only those that live in the home, but the friends that were witnesses to this," said Ashley Limardo, a spokesperson for the police department.

According to police, Hargrove and Santos-Brown were visiting a friend when there was an argument and Hargrove was killed.

At this point, it's unclear where the gun used in the shooting came from.

This death is the latest in a string of deadly violence involving young teenagers in St. Pete. The shooting Thursday happened around the corner from the scene of, what police described as, an accidental shooting in April in which a 14-year-old boy shot and killed his 11-year-old brother.

Last month, Pinellas County deputies charged another 14-year-old boy with murdering a woman at random in the Lealman community in St. Pete.

"It kind of hits me a little way because as a kid, you know, he's young. School's about to start. I think about the parents. And again, you know, just this, gun safety issue," said Steven Giraldo, a neighbor.

"Where are they getting the guns from? That's the problem," added Marcella Friedman, who said she knew the boys involved in the shooting Thursday. "Something's got to be done because what happened last night is just a shame all the way around."

Anyone with information on Santos-Brown's whereabouts is asked to call police at 727-893-7780 or, to remain anonymous, text "SPPD" + tip to TIP411.
