Dance fans ready for Sunset Music Festival

TAMPA (FOX 13) - The Sunset Music Festival kicks off this weekend, running all-day Saturday and Sunday. The event became controversial after two girls died and dozens of others were hospitalized in 2016.

FOX 13 interviewed three friends heading there this weekend.

”It’s all about the vibes at the festival just good people,” said Vinny Iacono.

“It was rough people were partying too hard getting wild,” Brandon Feguson said of last year’s event.

Promoters are looking to clean up SMF this year and to avoid a repeat. Security and emergency response details are being bumped up.

Additional police officers both in uniform and undercover are being added, as well as drug sniffing dogs. They've also added more cooling and water stations.

”Just drink a lot of water stay in the right crowds hang out with good people make sure everything's good,” said Billy Boozer.

Organizers are touting a zero tolerance drug policy.

“If there are drugs people will find a way to get them in,” Ferguson said.

Only time will tell if this year's changes prove to be enough.

”I’m just going to go all out, and pray, hope that I make it through,” said Iacono.
