Deadline looming to claim $63 million California lottery ticket
CHATSWORTH, Calif. - Check all your old lottery tickets: there is a winning ticket in California worth $63 million and no one has come forward to claim it.
Lottery officials say the Super Lotto Plus ticket was sold in Chatsworth, California on Aug. 8, 2015. The deadline to claim it is this Thursday, Feb. 4. "Every day I have somebody coming in saying 'oh I wish it was me, oh I think it is me.' So I say go home and check your tickets," said store employee Arsel Nazir.
The lump sum payment would be $40 million dollars before taxes. The store's owner has received a $315,000 bonus.
There were security cameras rolling at the time of the purchase, but officials don't want to release it. They say it's not clear who the winner is since so many people were buying tickets at the same time.
They do plan to use it to verify the winner should he or she come forward.
If the winner doesn't come forward, the ticket will become the largest unclaiimed jackpot in California history and the money will go to the state education fund.
