The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office is investigating a deputy-involved shooting that happened at an apartment complex in Riverview early Sunday morning.

According to investigators, there was a domestic disturbance prior to the shooting that involved a boyfriend and girlfriend.

Deputies said the victim, Krista Wong, called 911 around 1:15 a.m. Wong told the operator that during an argument, her boyfriend, Jamil Valladares, had pulled her hair and ripped her robe, and he was armed.

After deputies arrived and were talking with Wong in her apartment, her mom showed up and said Valladares was outside.

As deputies went outside to try to talk to him, they said Valladares went for his gun, so deputies fired multiple times. The suspect was shot at least twice.

People who live at the complex on Grovedale Drive woke up to blood on the sidewalk, emergency vehicles and deputies collecting evidence.

Resident Jan Thompson had been up long before sunrise, after being awakened by the gunfire. At first, she thought it was firecrackers going off. Then, she realized the situation was much darker.

"I have a heart condition," she told FOX 13. "Please don't let me have a panic attack."

Valladares was rushed to a nearby hospital in unknown condition. The deputies, Joshua Berrios and Austin O'Neill, have been put on paid administrative leave during the investigation.

In the meantime, at least three residents will be taking their vehicles to repair shops after being hit by stray bullets.
