Florida man shot and killed by SWAT team after he shoots, stabs his child's mother: Sheriff’s office

A man was shot and killed on Friday after he allegedly shot and stabbed his child's mother on Friday, Orange County deputies said. 

Around 5 p.m. on Friday, deputies responded to 6809 Colony Lakes Lane in regard to a man who had shot and stabbed the mother of his child, according to the sheriff’s office. The suspect remained in the house alongside the child while armed and refused to surrender, deputies said. After several hours of unsuccessful negotiations, a SWAT team breached the door to the home, a press release said.

The officers witnessed the man holding the child as a shield with the gun in his hand and proceeded to shoot and kill the suspect, according to deputies. The child was unharmed during this incident and the mother is currently in critical condition at the hospital, deputies said.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the shooting and will turn over its findings to the State Attorney’s Office for review. Once that process is completed, OCSO says they will conduct their own internal investigation.
