Florida governor and first lady celebrate Hope Florida in Pensacola

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis was joined by First Lady Casey DeSantis in Pensacola on Tuesday morning to talk about the progress of Hope Florida.

The news conference comes amid controversy surrounding a foundation led by Casey DeSantis after it received $10 million. All part of a $67 million settlement with Centene, a health insurance company.

During Tuesday's appearance, Ron DeSantis bashed a bill being proposed that would curb his ability to control who runs Florida’s public colleges and universities.

The backstory:

Democrat Anna Eskamani and Republican Michelle Salzman co-sponsored the bill, House Bill 1321, which backpedals on an important change to recent education policy.

That policy change made presidential searches at state schools public once again.

Ron DeSantis says he believes that this bill is a move to block his higher education agenda.

What they're saying:

"To have Republicans in the Florida House leadership colluding with these people, says DeSantis. "When they are doing that, and they aren't cutting your property taxes, they're not fixing the condo crisis, they're not doing the things that voters want them to do."

DeSantis also announced that each of Florida's state colleges will now have a Hope Florida liaison station to serve as a point of contact between the college and Hope Florida.
