Details emerge about family involved in hospital murder-suicide
TAMPA (FOX 13) - Family members are trying to piece together what happened inside Florida Hospital on Fletcher Avenue Monday, after a well-respected nurse and mother was shot and killed by her stepfather.
Deputies said Steven Reynolds is the only one who could really know why he shot his stepdaughter, Alonna Tedesco, and then himself.
Deputies told FOX 13 the two were visiting a family member in their hospital room on the third floor when the shooting took place. They said it was a murder-suicide and Reynolds died at the scene. Tedesco passed away in the hospital's emergency room.
Deputies have not confirmed who's room they were in, or who they were there to see. But family members said Tedesco went to the hospital to visit her mother, who has Alzheimer's.
Tedesco's nephew, who lives out of state, posted on Facebook following the tragedy. Stephen Salchli said his aunt's mother had been sick for some time.
He said, "Her stepfather was not helping her, i.e. having his wife get proper medical care. My aunt was trying to get guardianship of her medical decisions. Her stepfather was waiting at the hospital, and killed her and then killed himself."
Tedesco was married to Wesley Chapel family physician Dr. John Tedesco. She was a school nurse at both Hudson middle and high schools. The family lives in the Lake Jovita community in Dade City.
Officials said nine different people called 911 from inside the hospital Monday morning. Now, deputies are going through those calls and surveillance video to piece together any and all information for the family.
