The detective listed as the investigating officer in Michael Drejka's 'stand your ground' shooting case has been fired for allegedly driving to a crime scene while intoxicated, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office.

Thursday night, deputies responded to a deadly shooting at a St. Petersburg motel. They requested homicide detectives to come to the scene and Detective George Moffett, Jr., 48, showed up.

Officials said he was off-duty at the time, but drove his unmarked patrol car from his Riverview home to the crime scene.

Deputies said he had bloodshot and glassy eyes, slurred speech, and smelled like alcohol, the sheriff's office said.

Moffett reportedly admitted to drinking several drinks that included Crown Royal whiskey before he drove to the scene.

Deputies said they performed a field sobriety test, which Moffett failed.

The sheriff's office said two breath samples were taken from Moffett; one showing a blood alcohol level of 0.129 and another showing 0.134. The legal limit in Florida is 0.08.

Moffett was arrested on a DUI charge.

The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office said Moffett was hired in March 2006 - and was fired after his arrest.

PCSO said Moffett was convicted of DUI once before, in October 1995.
