Dog shot by police officer after attacking woman in Tampa: Officials
TAMPA, Fla. - A dog was shot by a Tampa police officer on Wednesday after it attacked a woman along East Mulberry Drive, officials said.
What we know:
The Tampa Police Department said officers responded at around 1 p.m. to the 1700 block of East Mulberry Drive. They said they received a call about a woman being attacked by a dog.
Once they arrived at the scene, officers said they found a large pit bull attacking the woman and refusing to let go of its grip on her. Officers used pepper spray to try and stop the dog, but authorities said it continued to attack the woman.
One officer then shot the dog to stop it from attacking the woman, according to TPD.
The woman was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Officers said Hillsborough Animal Control responded to remove the dog responsible for the attack, which was still alive, as well as another dog that appeared to have also been attacked.
What we don't know:
Investigators have not released details on who owned the dog, citing an active investigation.
