The no-homework initiative in Marion County has caught the attention of a Manatee County School Board member.
Charlie Kennedy tweeted on Friday that he thought it was a “great idea.”
Marion County recently announced that students do not need to worry about doing homework. Instead, the superintendent wants parents to read to their children for 20 minutes every day. The county officials said the new policy allows teachers to spend more time teaching and planning, and less time grading homework.

In Kennedy’s tweet, he said, “parents reading to kids is more useful than homework.” He tweeted to Manatee County's Superintendent Diana Greene asking for her opinion.
The next Manatee County School Board meeting is on July 25. It is unclear whether the topic will be up for discussion. The meeting agenda has not been posted online.
