Fired Dunedin nursing home employee arrested for hitting 2 residents in his care: Deputies

A Dunedin nursing home employee is out of a job after he was arrested for hitting two residents with disabilities that were in his care, according to deputies. 

The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office said Nicholas Brown, 35, who was a certified nursing assistant, is accused of hitting two men who are residents at the Lake Haven Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility off of San Christopher Drive. 

According to deputies, one of the victims suffers from a traumatic brain injury and the other is a quadriplegic with intellectual disabilities – both are considered non-verbal.

Detectives began investigating the incident, which happened on December 23, 2024, after another employee saw what happened. The employee told detectives that Brown slapped the victims multiple times on the legs and side. He also slapped them with force on the buttocks, according to deputies.

Both of the victims were evaluated and treated at the facility for non-life-threatening injuries after the incident, PCSO said. 

Brown was arrested more than two weeks later on Tuesday and taken to the Pinellas County Jail. He faces two counts of abuse or neglect of an aged or disabled person, according to deputies. 

Authorities said he was also fired from his job at the Lake Haven Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility.
