Florida State Fair gets underway
TAMPA (FOX 13) - Racing pigs, midway rides, and of course, the fair food! The Florida State Fair is in town and officially gets underway this week.
The fair begins Thursday, February 8 with Heroes Day, which means free admission for military veterans and first responders, along with family members.
Friday, February 9 is Hillsborough County Student Day, where students get in free with tickets distributed by the schools.
There are also senior discount days and $5 admission days, so check the fair schedule for the official lineup of discount days.

Fairgoers can get their hands on some new fair foods this year, including BBQ pulled pork ribbon fries, bacon bomb burgers, bacon cheeseburger chompers, Canadian poutine, a catfish sundae, chicken and waffle pizza, and deep-fried strawberry shortcake, among other goodies.
In addition to concerts and the midway full of rides, there are also livestock contests and exhibits, a bear show, racing pigs, Circus Hollywood, extreme BMX, and characters and shows for kids.
Parking for the fair is always free.
The fair runs through February 19.
