USF joins fight against cyber warfare

Cyber experts say wars between nations happen a lot more than any of us realize -- online. The U.S. military is looking for help with that and may have found it at the University of South Florida.

During a stop in Tampa, Governor Ron DeSantis was at the University of South Florida's Tampa campus to talk cybersecurity.

Wednesday, he announced a $20-million program aimed at creating more opportunities in cybersecurity through the school's Center for Cybersecurity. The governor said this will help facilitate more jobs in a field that's already high in demand.

"One of the things we've tried to do since I became governor was increase Florida's competitiveness in terms of workforce education and that's really looking to see what's really in high demand," the governor explained.

DeSantis said USF will help coordinate with regional partners to bring cybersecurity education to middle and high school students, as well as other universities, including Florida International University and a third school that's still to be named.
