Haines City High School targeted by vandals

HAINES CITY (FOX 13) - Vandals hit Haines City High School overnight Wednesday, tagging buildings with graffiti -including racial slurs and obscenities - in 50 different places.  

Haines City police detectives said the vandals scaled a fence and broke into the buildings, then went wild. Someone in the area called the police.

"What we think is, that it was senior prank that went way too far," said Assistant Chief of the Haines City Police Department, Brian McNulty.    

Police said the vandals also set several booby traps, including fishing wire strung across poles. 

"If someone walked through it, they could either trip or fall, or get it caught on their neck," McNulty told FOX 13 News. "It could do some serious damage."

Investigators said the vandals also smeared oil all over the school auditorium stage.

"If someone was to walk on it, it would cause serious harm, if someone fell," McNulty said.

Police arrested 19-year-old Jiemsly Felix and 18-year-old Jonathan Witty the night of the incident. One was nabbed in the cemetery next to the school, the other in a nearby field.The teens were charged with felonies.

Investigators were still looking for three possible accomplices.
