Hardee County corrections officer arrested for DUI told deputies it’s going to cost him his job: PCSO

Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd says the recent behavior of a Hardee County corrections officer was reckless and unacceptable after he showed nearly maximum signs of impairment in all field sobriety tests.

Deputies with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office arrested 28-year-old Dylan Kennedy on Saturday for DUI and DUI with property damage.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office says deputies were sent to the entrance of the Bridgeport Lakes subdivision in Mulberry after the Emergency Communications Center (911) received an automated crash alert.

When deputies arrived, they said they found Kennedy in his vehicle, and it appeared as though he had just crashed into the exit sign of the subdivision.

The deputies said Kennedy showed signs of impairment, and they requested PCSO Traffic Unit deputies to respond to conduct a DUI investigation.

Kennedy showed nearly the maximum signs of impairment in all field sobriety tests, according to PCSO.

Investigators say Kennedy was given a breathalyzer test twice and his Blood Alcohol Content was more than .13 both times, which is more than Florida’s legal limit of .08.

Kennedy told deputies that he was in the subdivision for a party and that he consumed five shots of alcohol at the party.

Deputies said he also told them that he was a Florida Department of Corrections Officer at the Hardee Correctional Institution and that this arrest would cost him his job.

"Dylan Kennedy was arrested for driving under the influence with a significantly high blood alcohol level. This reckless behavior is unacceptable and puts our community at risk," Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said. "Not only did he choose to drive intoxicated, but he hit a sign, which could just as easily have been a person."

Dylan Kennedy was arrested for DUI and DUI with property damage.

It is unclear if Kennedy lost his job with the Hardee Correctional Institution.
