Woman killed by tree in Weeki Wachee

WEEKI WACHEE, Fla. - Hernando Fire Rescue said a freak accident is to blame Monday for killing a woman in her mobile home.
According to the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office, the woman was inside her modular home in the area of Tooke Lake Blvd. and Cedarvue Street when a tree fell on it, trapping her inside.

Firefighters called to the scene say a large tree had landed onto the center of her mobile home. A witness told FOX 13 the woman's family said the woman doesn't live in the trailer, but that's where she goes to watch T.V. and smoke.

"This is one of those acts of God where you never see it coming, never could predict, and it happens," said Nick Brandt, a spokesperson for Hernando Fire Rescue. "It just looks to be that the tree suffered some rot in the center of it and fell apart from either winds or age or various other weather factors."
According to officials, the unstable nature of the tree and the structure made it difficult to get to the victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
