A Hillsborough County Fire Rescue medic has been arrested for a third time on domestic violence charges, according to Hillsborough County sheriff's deputies.

Daniel Reed, 38, faces charges of domestic violence battery and felony domestic battery by strangulation stemming from an incident between December 26 and 27.

HCSO detectives who responded to a report of domestic violence say they learned Reed and his live-in girlfriend had been in "multiple verbal altercations that turned physical."

Detectives say Reed hit the victim several times an choked her on two separate occasions, causing her to lose consciousness.

Reed was also arrested in 2012 and 2014 for domestic violence, according to HCSO.

Deputies initially said Reed was a lieutenant with HCFR, but Fire Rescue officials later clarified that he is a fire medic, adding that he has been placed on paid leave pending an investigation.
